Yo what is up guys it’s Greg.
I’m very excited today to show you a top-notch, super rare puzzle, which I’m too broke to buy myself.
A very dear friend lent it to me (thanks Tom!), and I said, well, why not make a review for you guys.
I have some more news about many things this time. The first, is that in this video I’ll announce the giveaway winner! Keep an eye for it.
The second is that something really big has happened, and if you’re following my Instagram, you’ll see what it is! On there I keep in touch with fellow puzzlers and give more updates and behind the scenes content. Go follow me there to see them and feel free to drop me a DM and say hi!
With all that said, we’re here to talk about –
Quick Navigation
Lock Box
What a beautiful puzzle. So far there were 133 copies made, and it is said that more copies will be released by the end of the year 2021.
The designer and maker, Eric Fuller, is one of the most skilled puzzle craftsmen in the world.
He’s specializing in wood, and many designers entrust him his designs to be made by the skilled hands if his and his team.
Every puzzle of his that I saw or solved was precision made with outstanding accuracy, and Lock Box features the same precision, just taken to another level.
It is also relatively small, which makes It that much harder to build.
It is very important to keep Lock Box in a humidity-controlled environment. Not doing this may damage the puzzle. We don’t want to damage the puzzle.
The box comes with this little key, which you can use to open the box. I know it looks simple, but this level of woodworking mastery is just outstanding.
I can tell you more about precision…
…but I won’t. Let’s do this instead.
(This is where, in the video, I show some intense Lock Box footage)
No need for words.
The Lock Box Experience
As a puzzle, the Lock Box is a Sequential Discovery puzzle box. Like Where’s My Hammer which I reviewed a while ago.
This means that there are multiple steps in the puzzle. With each step made, you receive a small piece of information, until you’re ready to glue them all up and execute the final step,
Reach the grand finale;
The magnum opus of the puzzle.
The exact difficulty of Lock Box is hard to define. Judging by the solving process, I think it’s very challenging.
Granted, the mechanism is surprisingly complex, but the sheer elegance of each step makes it that much less frustrating, and much more enjoyable.
It didn’t take me a whole lot of time to solve it, but I had to think really hard.
I’ve hit a wall during the solution, where I had to stop and let everything sink.
You can’t solve it by blind luck. There’s no chance to do that. You must fully understand the mechanism in order to get anywhere with Lock Box.
This is a huge plus – in a 450$ puzzle, “blind luck solves” would ruin the experience for me.
Furthermore, it was really unlike anything I saw.
I solved many puzzles in my life, but still couldn’t refer to my past experiences.
The mechanism is truly revolutionary and each step is exciting.
I’m very happy I could solve it by myself, as I got the full amount of satisfaction out of it.
Because of all this I’d say this puzzle Is best for –
Hunters!
Yeah. It was a tough choice, but collectability wise, this puzzle scores more points than solvability wise. Even though the solution is fantastic, the price makes it difficult to afford. As a collector’s piece, it’s a true piece of art in a puzzle.
If you’re a Champion and can afford it though – just go for it. No matter how experienced you are with puzzles, it will blow you away. Worst case scenario, you can resell it afterwards.
Verdict
What an awesome puzzle this Lock Box is.
But you know what’s even more awesome? We have a giveaway winner! And it’s Cristian Poliziani! Congratulations!
