Voidlock by Jean-Claude Constantin – Review & Solution

In this video I’ll be unboxing and solving the VoidLock Puzzle from Jean-Claude Constantin. It’s an N-ary puzzle lock, meaning the goal is to figure out the complicated sequence that uses a clever mechanism.

The Solution Process

The beautiful thing about N-ary puzzles, is the feeling of flow you get once you get into rhythm.

What I noticed that happens a lot when I solve these, is in the beginning – I’m grasping the mechanism. Usually takes a few minutes – or tens of minutes – depending on how complicated is the mechanism. Then I’ll be getting into flow, once I understand what happens.

It’s very important to stay focused in the process, so the solution feels meditative and fun.

The VoidLock Puzzle

The goal of the puzzle is to unlock the lock by moving the panels in a specific order.

The VoidLock has three panels, and each panel needs to be moved a certain number of steps before the next panel can be moved. The puzzle is fairly difficult because it requires a lot of patience and concentration.

A person well-versed with n-ary puzzles will find this simple. A person who never tried them before might take a while.

The Veridct

I can never say no to a nicely made wooden n-ary puzzle lock. The design here is creative, and mechanism is nice to work with. I’ve seen more complicated mechanisms from JCC (Gearbox, I’m looking at you), but this one is pretty good for first-timers!
