Sup guys, it’s Greg, back with another spoilerfree and informative quick review.

This time, it’s Cast Dice! One of the newest additions to Hanayama’s range, sent to me by Puzzlemaster and designed by Timothy Collins. So thank you Puzzlemaster, and lets dive in.

Hanayama Cast Dice Overview

Dice is a small metal puzzle, consisting of 3 identical pieces and a frame.

Your goal is to take it apart, then put it back together. It is categorized as a take apart puzzle, but functionally, it’s more of an assembly puzzle!

As usual with Hanayama puzzles, the casting is very good and precise.

Dice Is very wobbly from the beginning. It moves pretty freely and taking it apart is easy mode.

Only when you start reassembling, it gets tricky.

It being so wobbly, small and loose doesn’t help much! Instead, it makes it much trickier, bringing some dexterity to the table.

And still, this puzzle is not difficult. I wasn’t sure how I solved it the first couple times I did it – I kind of lucked out! After that, fully understanding it was very accessible and fun.

What I liked about it is that it wasn’t what I expected of a Hanayama. It does not feel like a usual Hanayama, but more like a combination of a caged burr with an assembly puzzle.

The Verdict

Dice is best for – Wanderers!

Being rather easy, sturdy and wobbly, Dice is a good puzzle for your non-puzzling friends, kids, and the beginning puzzler.

Don’t get Cast Dice looking for a mindbending challenge. I like solving puzzles like this one when I’m overwhelmed by a harder puzzle.

It helps me feel smarter.
