The History Of The Master Sword
The Master Sword, often called the Blade of Evil’s Bane, is one of the most iconic weapons in gaming history, forged in the fires of legend within The Legend of Zelda series. It’s not just a sword—it’s a symbol of heroism, courage, and the timeless battle between good and evil.
In the world of Hyrule, the Master Sword was created by the goddess Hylia to combat an overwhelming evil that threatened the land. Originally called the Goddess Sword, it was later blessed and strengthened by Hylia’s chosen hero, transforming into the Master Sword we know today. Its purpose? To defeat any who would dare to plunge Hyrule into darkness, most notably the demon king, Demise, and his reincarnated form, Ganon.
The sword has a built-in moral compass—it can only be wielded by someone with a pure heart and a boundless sense of courage. (No pressure, right?) This means it often sits peacefully in its pedestal, waiting for the right hero, usually Link, to come along and pull it free, Excalibur-style.
Throughout the game-series, the Master Sword has been at the center of many pivotal moments. Whether it’s sealing away evil, helping Link traverse time, or even breaking the fourth wall to cut through Link’s personal doubts, this sword is more than just a weapon—it’s an ally. And let’s not forget its sleek design. With its blue hilt, golden accents, and glowing blade, it’s as beautiful as it is deadly.
The Master Sword isn’t just a part of The Legend of Zelda lore; it’s a character in its own right. Every time we see it resting in its pedestal, surrounded by light, we’re reminded of the heroic legacy it represents.
Having the Master Sword released as a puzzle collaboration with Nintendo is one of my favorite moves from Hanayama. This series of 3 puzzles is a hit, in my opinion, as they not only look great – but also remind us of a nostalgic game. I don’t know how about you, but I used to play some of the older Zelda games. Definitely fun to have a Master Sword Puzzle in real life!
The Master Sword Puzzle
This limited edition Master Sword Puzzle by Hanayama is a metal puzzle in the shape of the iconic Master Sword from The Legend of Zelda. This series makes so much sense because in the games there are plenty of puzzles and adventures – making this a brilliant choice for both parties – Nintendo and Hanayama alike.
The Master Sword is locked with 2 half-cylinder shaft pieces, whose details are hidden from the eye. Your goal is to maneuver the shaft pieces until you can remove the legendary Master Sword.
For a level 6 Hanayama, The Master Sword was fairly hard but not impossible. Having some experiene with blind solves, I could feel my way through and understand where I am at most times. The build of the puzzle inside is pretty cool and fun to work with. The pieces, as always with Hanayama, are of great build quality and finish.
